Hummingbird

This morning I discovered a Hummingbird had flown into my apartment. Even though it was flying my first thought was "mouse!", as I had a couple over the winter. Not a mouse.

It flew into my office. It wouldn't fly low enough to reach the open window, and spent most it's time flying in circles, then landing on my metal workboard. Watch the movie.

Of course I told it several times that to exit out the window, he would need to fly lower, but my bird language skills don't extend to the hummingbird dialect. While making tea, it followed me to the kitchen, then back into the office.

We worked together in the office for about 30 minutes, while he fly about and rested in the same general area. At my desk, I could just look up and see him. Briefly I entertained memories of my Grandfather who befriended a wild sparrow, which followed him around the garden, would land on your hand and perch on your shoulder, flew away for winter twice and came back both springs. The third spring he didn't come back.

I took a shower, and when I returned my bird had escaped.

sick

I have been sick for the past week, and yesterday relented and purchased Rite Aid's Tussin CF to help me sleep. A 4oz bottle was just $4.00. It works OK, but the side effects are glorious. I'm stumbling around the apartment, making funny sounds while raising my hands above my head. In other words, I'm acting quite like most of the drug-fueled saddies on my block. One could have a really good time for $8.00, and if you OD, you can sue Rite Aid!

Street Economics

Three guys walking towards me down Larkin, just before Turk. Two are talking to each other, with a third trailing behind. One guy is carrying an all-in-one stereo, speaker wires dangling. I overhear him say "This is how it be. You is the finder and I'm the borrower. You get a finder's fee of three dollars."
