Upside the head

Tonight, walking back from the garage on O'Farrell street I slwoly fell into an interesting group of people. One very tall black 30ish man, a much smaller south asian man and (presumably) his wife, both look to be in their 40s. He was between them, talking loudly, As I passed them, he yelled 'taxi" for a passing cab, which with his light not on and on the other side of the street, didn't stop. Maybe he was trying to catch a cab for them.

Then, at the corner of O'Farrell and Hyde, I stopped for the light, and fell behind another black guy in his late 20s wearing a denim jacket and middle-eastern compatriate (early 20s), slowly walking and talking to each other. It was transactional, and couldn't tell who was buying or selling, but the lack guy passed money to the middle eastern guy. They were walking slow, and I passed the black guy on the right, who caught up with me and admonished me for walking up on him so fast, and that I should let him know, or next time he'd hit me upside the head. I told him "Sure" in my most sincere street voice. Looking at him, i noticed he was missing his front teeth.

He kept on as I was opening my door, like he was doing me a favor in teaching me how to deal with him next time. Maybe in a few months, when I understand hin more, we'll be sharing a 40 together on the sidewalk.
